Breathe…
Right now, take a deep, body-filling, soul-nourishing breath.
Open wide and surrender to it.
That’s how easy it is to put pleasure first.
And, of course, this rabbit hole goes as far as you want to follow it.
What if you were a pleasure detective? And, as you sleuth your way through life, you follow the delicious breadcrumbs (or would they be pieces of chocolate? rose petals?) to the place of your greatest aliveness.
Imagine life leading you to your greatness with a trail of flower petals… Oh. My.
Pleasure First is an act of self love. It’s about connecting with the moment and what might make it better – or even the best – moment it can be. It’s about prioritizing the desires of your soul. It’s about realizing your joy.
Being a pleasure detective puts you into constant awareness and presence with how this moment can be better. You seek the things that will bring you the most fulfillment – real, soul-level desires, both small and large.
Pleasure First starts with your body. It can be as easy as a stretch and a deep breath. It can be a walk. A quick rub on your own neck or shoulders. It can be a whiff of essential oil. A kiss with your lover.
You can hum your favorite tune, sing, eat chocolate, drink water with lemon, listen to birds, step outside.
See what I mean? Pleasure first is sensual and delicious and even awareness of the moment can be enough (look at that gorgeous snow-covered tree outside! I’m so glad I’m warm in here when it’s -42 out there).
If a blip of awareness isn’t enough, add something – a deeper breath, a scent, some music. What can you do to bring more pleasure to this moment, detective?
And suddenly, you are inspired to complete that next mundane task (not so mundane now!).
What if you just tried it for a month? What if, in this month of love and winter cold, you brought in the spark of pleasure first? How might it change your day, your relationships, your dreams?
This month, give yourself permission to embrace your pleasure, at least once a day, but even in every moment. You don’t have to overturn your life. You can simply make it a little better, breath by breath.
This is a monthly theme for You’ve Got Joy!
Let your Joy and Pleasure kiss you every day…
