What, in this moment, would make you happier?
And then, what if you did that?
Imagine, moving through your day following that question. Every moment, every transition, every step, “what would make me happier right now?”
This could be the smallest little thing. Like, a big deep breath. Let it out with a sigh. It could be a stretch. A piece of chocolate. Or, just to disengage from your current thoughts and think about something else for a minute.
It could be big, too. Like, plan your way out your current job. Or, start the process of writing a book. Or, take a month long vacation in Europe.
It could be that those little joys lead to the big joys. That each magical gumdrop you eat increases your happiness more and more. It could be that you transform your whole world into a wonderland.
Did you figure out how big this question really is? It’s bigger than a moment, an hour, a day. Bigger than a week or month or year.
We’re talking about soul level transformation. Reverberating through lifetimes. In a breath of attention.
What will make me happier right now? What about now? What about now? And?
I get it. We can’t ask that question all the time. Right? I mean, you’ve gotta go to work, and clean the fucking toilet. Earn a living. Eat food. Guess what, Soul Seeker – you can do that with joy too. And not that shitty version where you layer joy on top of resentment and anger and spend all day resisting the toilet because – Wait, you think, why does that have to be done today? Hmmm. I think I’ll skip it and write a novel. So, you get up about an hour in, feeling pretty creative, and have to go to the bathroom. And you think, huh, I could totally do this right now. In fact, a clean toilet would make me happy! And, Shazam – it’s clean in 5 minutes or less. And you were actually happy to do it.
You didn’t have to make time for it. You didn’t resist it. You actually enjoyed it. It actually made you happy. How do you feel now, detective?
(In case you didn’t notice, we talked about this in February when we discussed pleasure first. Why would I talk about this again? Because it’s really important and a cool skill and habit you want. It could save your life.)
Want to make your question yummier? Change Happier to Ecstatic. Turned On. Alive. Pleasurable. Choose a word that makes your body thrum with the vibration of your desire. That’s what I do – and that word can change every day to exactly what you need.
By the way, if you want to find the words that make your body thrum and take your joy to the next level, consider working with me one-on-one.
